The Story Behind Pegasus

In 1942, Britain’s Airborne Forces wanted a unifying emblem. Artist Edward Seago designed Pegasus with the rider Bellerophon – a motif from Greek mythology symbolizing speed, courage, and the ability to strike from the air. The 1st Airborne Division

The 1st Airborne Division was an elite formation of the British Army, established in 1941. The division is best known for its heroic stand at Arnhem during Operation Market Garden in September 1944, led in the field by Major General Roy Urquhart.
