The MA-1 jacket is a padded pilot jacket with a short waist and classic military-inspired design. The outer material is 100% nylon, windproof and water-repellent, providing protection against light rain and snow. The jacket is insulated with polyester fill and is suitable for cool days and transitional seasons. In colder conditions, additional layers can be worn underneath for extra warmth.

The model features five pockets:

• Two front slash pockets with snap closure
• Two inner pockets with snap closure
• Sleeve pocket with zipper and pen holder

The collar and cuffs are ribbed in cotton to retain heat and block wind. The zipper is located on the left side and includes a storm flap and double "MA-1" pull tabs. The double pull tabs allow the zipper to be used regardless of which side the jacket is worn on, while retaining the original MA-1 design.

The MA-1 jacket was developed in the post-war period when jet aircraft began flying higher than propeller planes. Earlier sheepskin jackets were too heavy and cold, and pilots required a lighter, more functional jacket. The classic MA-1 was designed with an olive green outer layer and orange lining to combine visibility and camouflage in the field.

The jacket is produced by Rothco, an American family-owned company with over 60 years of experience in military-inspired clothing for civilians. The design follows the classic style but is adapted for modern civilian use.
