The Rothco Vintage B-15A Bomber Jacket is based on the iconic B-15A from the U.S. Air Force in the 1940s – originally created for pilots, but reinterpreted for modern use.
The B-15A was developed as an upgrade to the B-10 model and became essential gear for aviators who needed to stay warm during missions at high altitudes, far below freezing.
Today it stands as one of the most recognizable military jackets and laid the foundation for what we now know as the classic bomber jacket.

Material and construction

Made from 100% cotton with a weave specification of 108x56/16x10. This means the fabric has a high thread density (108 threads per inch in the warp and 56 in the weft) and yarn count of 16x10, resulting in a strong, durable, and long-lasting material.
Inside, the jacket is quilt-lined for warmth and comfort, while the collar comes with a detachable faux fur trim, allowing you to adapt it to different weather conditions and styles.

Design and function

The short bomber silhouette with ribbed cuffs and waistband ensures a snug and comfortable fit.
Two snap-button front pockets and a zippered sleeve pocket provide practical storage.
Large zipper pulls make the jacket easy to operate while wearing gloves, and the classic bi-swing back design adds freedom of movement.
Small leather details on the chest are inspired by fastening points on original pilot jackets, adding an authentic touch.

Historical details

A lesser-known chapter of the B-15A’s history is the use of silk maps sewn into the lining. Printed on silk to be both water-resistant and silent, these maps could help pilots navigate if shot down behind enemy lines.
While Rothco’s version naturally does not include such a map, the jacket still carries the legacy of a time when every detail had a functional purpose.

The jacket has a short waist-length cut and a regular fit, staying true to the original bomber jackets of the 1940s.
