The Brandit M-51 Parka is a thermally lined parka jacket with a removable inner liner, making it suitable for year-round use. Historical background

The M-51 parka was developed in 1951 as part of the U.S. Army’s Cold Weather Uniform System – a layered system designed to protect soldiers from cold and moisture in extreme conditions during the Korean War. The model replaced the earlier M-48 parka and was made from a lighter and more durable material. The extended back, known as the fishtail, allowed soldiers to tie the jacket around their legs to retain body heat – a functional detail that later became iconic for parka design.
